Emerson bodies are light, tremendously strong hand-crafted works of art. Stronger than steel yet just flexible enough to absorb impact, they are a composite matrix based around a select grade vinyl ester - our heaviest Cobra bodies weigh just 180lbs (81.6kg), while our race bodies weigh in at a mere 60lbs (27.2kg).
Unlike traditional aluminum or fiberglass bodies, Emerson Cobra bodies simply do not expand or shrink under the heat of the sun. The body of our roadsters in the deepest jet-black would have the same dimensions under a Dubai sun or a Moscow winter. Cobras made with other materials, especially traditional fiberglass resins, expand up to half an inch (1.27cm). Our gaps stand at 3/16ths (.476cm) of an inch - better than a Lexus.
In the crafting of an Emerson Cobra body, we use an extremely complex mould that creates both inner and outer panels all in one shot. The entire shell comes out of the mould absolutely seamless, ready for mounting on the chassis, in one comprehensive piece. As with nearly everything in our cars, we invested in this extensive process to engineer in further rigidity, performance, and safety.
"Our trunks are big enough for a body. Or two full sets of golf clubs. Your choice," jokes Emerson. "The internal capacity of our trunks really is pretty massive. This is in addition to an armor-protected fuel tank, and rear-mounted battery for better weight distribution. For those really focused on performance, we swap out the twenty-four gallon fuel tank for a racing fuel cell. The fuel cells tamp down the fuel to keep it from sloshing during turns, which can be a real hammer of energy going in the wrong direction."
In addition to the body materials and single-piece body moulding, one of the aspects to Emerson Roadsters that truly sets them apart is that our bodies are wider, longer, and two inches shorter - all while giving our clients a deeper seat and far wider foot boxes. These changes are a key part of performance, but what they also provide is a subtle but substantial change in the look of the car - our clients often say they just look more muscular, and more 'right' in their lines.
The photos below illustrate many of these features:
Emerson bodies: aerospace materials, uncompromising attention to beauty and detail.
Our trunks: big enough for two full sets of golf clubs, or one very big car builder.
Massive door hinges for practical and safety purposes, welded right to the frame.
Original Cobras have a 9" wide (22.8cm) foot box, whereas ours are over 14" (35.6cm).
Genuine artisan leather and woodworking give our interiors unparalleled refinement in a Cobra.
Our Cobras have special dimensions: in addition to being longer and wider, they also are two inches shorter, giving a more muscular, balanced look to the cars. Imagine a two inch horizontal strip taken out of the middle of the profile, and re-blended for better lines - that's how we reproportioned the look for superior stance and better overall geometry. Even with this, our deeper cockpit allows Bill, at 6'2" (1.89m), to see underneath the window frame - impossible with other Cobras.
